In trying to come up with a post to launch my blog, and having SO much to say, I'm going to try to keep this one simple.
All of life's ups and downs shape us, in one way or another. Being a mother is the ultimate shaper, in my own experience. Even in looking back over my own childhood, it is now colored by how I view the world through the prism of motherhood.
When my son was young, he was the child who would inevitably ask "Why" in response to a directive. My answer, when logic failed, would finally be "Because I'm the mother." (He quickly learned to mock me as I said it, in an often successful attempt to make me laugh.) Even now, my reactions to most circumstances, even those not related to my children, are shaped by being a mom.
If we live long enough, none of us can escape troubles, sorrows, or even heartbreak. My own were no worse than any one's, but staggering as I was going through them. However, if I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't change a thing. All of them, directly or not, led me to my children and where we are today.
So there you have it. Most of what I believe and say is at least, in part, Because I'm the Mother!
